Domain Routing

by ZoneEdit staff, edited by Mohan Kapoor, Supervisor, Himalayan Websites

To make use of our domain routing service you must buy or already own a domain name from a registrar. Then you need to allow us to handle your domain at a DNS level, e.g. your domain has to point to domain name servers of our choosing.

The following domain routing options are available:

  • Route all web requests of a single domain to an IP of your choosing.
  • Route all web requests of multiple domains to a single IP of your choosing.
  • Route third-level web requests to web addresses of your choosing (a single web address must be used per third-level domain). The number of third-level domains is not limited.
Third level domain routing can include "cloaking", e.g. an invisible frame is used to hide the destination web address. Your domain name stays in the location bar of your visitor's browser, thus "cloaking" the destination web address.

Domain routing of up to 200 MB of usage per year, e.g. around 1 million DNS queries, is included in our Information Logistics, Managed Processing and Managed Web Space solutions.

Usage that counts towards your quote includes bytes transferred during DNS queries as well as Domain and Mail routing.

If high reliability is a major concern, we can provide you with a third and fourth domain name server per domain in addition to the two standard domain name servers which come will all of our packages. At 3 name servers the DNS server uptime increases from 99.9% to 99.9999% and with 4 domain name serers, the uptime can be considered 100%, especially when the DNS servers are distributed among continents.
