VSAT and Ethernet Equipment Destroyed

Himalayan Websites experienced a major incident during the late afternoon of 8 March 2003. A short-circuit occurred at the local electrical power supply at Ghurhdorh, Himachal Pradesh. The Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) installed to protect the Satellite and Ethernet equipment against power failure and spikes could not handle the situation and - as a result - the Gilat Skystar 360E satellite equipment, the local Ethernet network as well as the monitor of the satellite gateway server went up in smoke.
It
will take Himalayan Websites and its suppliers about two weeks to cope
with the incident. Alternate power generation for critical network equipment
will be evaluated to avoid such happenings in the future.
Some service delays will occur during March.
